In June, Tynwald unanimously agreed to set up a dedicated climate emergency transformation team and report back by January 2020 on options and an action plan to reach net zero carbon emissions.

St John’s Post Office to remain open until 31st December 2019

Sadly St Johns Post Office counter is at risk. Jointly as MHKs, we have had meetings with the Post Office and German Commissioners and we are pleased it will now stay open from 9am till 12pm Monday, Wednesday and Friday starting in August and continuing till 31 December.

Tynwald will debate the future of the Post Office in October which will set the direction of travel. We are hopeful that this will include retaining sub Post Office counters as they are a valuable community asset.

Shake-up in Health Approved

May Tynwald approved all the recommendations in the Sir Jonathan Michael Report.

This includes the setting up of an independent organisation called Manx Care which will undertake all the operational functions of the health service. A transition team in the Cabinet Office will plan the much needed fundamental changes, such as an Air Bridge for better transportation in a medical emergency and tele-medicine.

The report can be found below:

Climate Change Bill Announced

The announcement was made today at the launch of the Active Travel Investment Plan and is an important and significant step in the Island’s response to climate change.

This Climate Change Bill will commit the Isle of Man to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 in line with the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change report.

Practical and imminent changes were also announced such as the ban of all fossil fuel boilers in new build housing by 2025, the ban of new fossil fuel cars by 2040 and the installation of cycle racks and showers at public buildings.

This follows the Low Emission Travel and Electric Vehicle strategy approved in March Tynwald.
